Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin is encouraging investors to self-storage cryptoassets instead of centralised exchanges, considering multisig wallets the most convenient and safe way.
Multisig is a special type of cryptocurrency wallet, similar to a multi-deposit box. There are different types of them. When setting up your wallet, you decide how many private keys will be needed.
The most common option is ‘two out of three’. If you have three unique signatures, any two of them can be used to authenticate the transaction. For example, you can keep one private key on your phone, one on your laptop and one on a piece of paper.
If one of the keys is stolen or lost you can still access your funds. In this way, multisig wallets solve the security problem perfectly.
